Flowers (FS II.71) is part of Warhol’s celebrated Flowers portfolio from 1970. In this screenprint, the motif of four large hibiscus blossoms is rendered with bold, flat color against a stylised, graphic background of undergrowth. Unlike more traditional still‑life flower pictures, Warhol flattens form, heightens saturation, and abstracts the natural into the realm of Pop Art.
In this version, the flowers appear in intense, contrasting hues—perhaps a deep red or purple at top, and bright yellow at the bottom—set against foliage-like patterns of cyan or teal and a darker reddish background. The interplay of artificial colour and simplified form gives the work both visual punch and conceptual subtlety.
